Hi gang –
I have a client that has asked for a product to reduce foot traffic sounds in their condo. The product would have to be installed under the new carpet and pad, as the neighbors ceiling below them is finished. Evidently, the more they use their condo, the complaints from the tenants below them increases. My only thought was Homosote board, but I do not know the long term viability of the product in this application. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Kim, I used it under carpet/pad over concrete in 4 season patio enclosure. It was tried for it's insulation property. Access the Homasote site for more detailed info re/ sound deadening. Follow their install specs if you use it. Keep spacing between sheets as high humidity can expand it and may cause it to buckle if applied too tight. I appears to have held it's shape, but no real way to tell till they change the carpet and we can see if heavy furniture can leave an imprint. Maybe mongo could add to this, as he is familiar in this application I think. You might do a search here using homasote and the name Mongo. Best of luck.

Another product you could try is Celotex brand "sound board". It's a little for ridgid than the homasote and is specificaly made for sound control.
Good luck!

Thanks Zip-
Does that mean that you have used it or have heard of it being used for this application, and perhaps what the results were?
Havent used it, but heard about it from others and no complaints..
good luck!

I have been working in a house where Homasote was used under the carpet. The house was built in the 60's, and I believe the Homasote was installed when the house was built. It looked almost new. I did not see any problems with it.
How it performs for sound deadening I do not know.
