I’m interested in minimizing the amount of vibration transferred through floors and walls in an upcoming construction project. What if I adhere a strip of felt along a stud? The drywall would actually touch the felt rather than the stud itself. I’d also adhere felt to the top of the floor joist. The plywood would then actually be touching the felt rather than the joist. An alternative to felt would be rubber.
I thought this might be a simple and cheap way to reduce vibration which I understand is really the issue when it comes to reducing interior noise. Has anyone tried this? Thanks, Wolf Boehme

Sounds like the makings of a failure to me.
Installing anything that would prevent adhesion or solid contact for mechanical fastening will do more harm than good.
We go to great lenghts to glue and screw decking and you want to put a felt between the plywood and joists.
There's a multitude of ways to silence a house and that ain't one of them.

Thanks for the input. I was looking at the felt as the equivalent of a rubber washer.
I see a row of trim nails and drywall screws popping with the first picture hung. Good intention, just the wrong application. If this will be a DIY job, Family Handyman magazine recently ran an article on sound insulation. Search the Family Handyman web site for it....that's not a mistake, it's rustic
Thanks for the note and the lead on a source of ideas
