Home Improvements
from what I've read, sealing holes is the biggest factor in sound proofing. So close up all the the penetrations.
Also, with sound proofing, mass is your friend - try doubling up the sheet rock.
Sorry, I can't really help you about your faced insulation.

Dead on. I did an eighty year old farm house and had to rebuild a few walls. In the kitchen, we caulked where the 2x's met the sheathing. I never realized how much of a difference this made until I opened the door one day during a storm and was surprised to learn there was a storm. As such, I now focus on sealing any place where air could move through walls when sound proofing. For a bathroom, I did this, then I put on a second layer of rock from scraps and caulked that too. When all that was done and the insulation was in (glass works better than ridged foam, which transfers vibration (acts like the diaphragm on a speaker)), I put a tread plate with a door sweep on the door to deal with that air transfer point. The only problem then is, where to get your fresh air from when the fan is operating.

I have a tight bathroom as well and installed one of these vents near the toilet. When I use the bathroom I open it up.

That will chill your backside in Winter with the fan running while you sit there.

That is true. When I use it though I only open it long enough to vent the odours or humidity. I have a Panasonic inline vent fan with duct running to directly behind and below the toilet tank. So I don't get cold by the time I am done. But I live in Oklahoma so I don't know how cold it would get up north.
edit: The thru vent could be located to draw air from a conditioned space?

You'd be dead of of hypothermia in under fifty-five seconds. ;>)
Anything breeze under 50* F feels way too cold on a bare behind. Any ladies in the house must REALLY like using that commode.

Fiberglas insulation between studs will not reduce sound much. Scraps of drywall between the studs with insulation keeping it from touching will work better.
