Source for THICK Foamboard?
In remodelling my house, I have found the attic to be simply inaccessible – unless you’re a cat! The only way to access most of the areas over the house is by removing the ceiling of the room below.
Alas, test holes, various small projects, and IR scans show major areas without insulation. There is also a complication in that the eave vents are already blocked.
Yes, I have my work cut out for me!
I am considering insulating by covering the ceilings by removing the drywall, attaching a layer of plywood, several inches of foan, then drywall over the foam. The purpose of the plywood is to guarantee mounting screws have good purchase.
My issue is … I can’t seem to find foamboard thicker than 1-1/2″. I know the stuff was once available in thicknesses of at least 4″. Can anyone suggest a source for this thicker foam?

My local masonry supply and commercial drywall supply has 2" stock, sometimes thicker, or if not in stock can be ordered.
Try a commercial roofing supply house
Try a commercial roofing supplier. Thick layers of polyiso are common under membrane roofs. Prices will be better than at the lumberyard too.
