what is bump?
A bump pushes your original post 'up' in order that it will be more likely to be seen.
Posts that are not viewed frequently fall off the map.
Best wishes on the work thing.[email protected]
You might try working through real estate offices, contracting repairs and painting on homes that are going on the market. That's the way I started my first small contracting business and I'm sure that it will still work well.
I'm in LA now and I'm sure that there's plenty of that kind of work around, for good money too.
Just walk in to any RE office with a smile and a friendly attitude. They'll have something for you to start on within a couple of hours. They'll make the deal for you with the homeowner too.
They'll be your best friend if you help them get houses on the market rapidly, in presentable shape. Once you've proved your worth, you can expect to get referred to new home buyers who want to do more substantial work.
Things are getting tight around those parts (I'm in CM) but I've been doing little things for quite some time. The real estate thing can be good, but I hear that 2/3 of the IE is unoccupied because of the loan crisis. Good luck.
Three possibilities for pick-up work:
Realtors - Look for those few realtors who aim for top dollar or faster sale by giving the house "Wow Factor". They upgrade their listings by installing raised panel doors, soffit lighting, new kitchen cabinet faces/doors, baseboard, etc, as well as fixing/upgrading windows and exterior trim. Prospects walk in and say "wow", thus making all the other listings look blah and the house sells quickly for top dollar. You are the guy who can make their improvements happen.
Termite exterminators and painters. Some have their own carps to fix damaged wood, many do not.

I got on the list [handyman]at no cost when a client entered my name. I think you can buy an ad with them too. You might have to subsidize membership for one of your past customers to join and rate you.
