Spam filter?

DavidDe | Posted in General Discussion on May 1, 2012 07:30am

I am trying to post a simple question and I keep getting flagged by a spam filter.  Not sure why.  No url or websites in the post or pictures.  Anyone?

Obviously because you're not posting spam.  The spam's getting through just fine.

    1. netrate | May 01, 2012 10:26pm | #2

No, what I mean is that it won't let me post!  I have tried unsuccessful on three different computer, 2 different IP addresses and a new email address to see and for some reason (I am asking questions about hw floors), it tells me that is cannot post the question.  I cannot even reference the question here, because I think it will bounce it again!  Any ideas why?

      1. DanH | May 02, 2012 06:12am | #3

Like I said, you need to be posting spam.  The filters don't seem to stop it at all.

        1. DavidDe | May 02, 2012 05:08pm | #4

          come on, seriously?

Ok, kidding aside.  This is getting silly.  It is not posting my question - and I even added a link to it!  I cannot even show you the text that I wrote because I get this error :

Your submission has triggered the spam filter and will not be accepted.

          What gives?

          1. DanH | May 02, 2012 07:21pm | #5

            What gives?

Nobody has a clue, except maybe some people at Taunton, but they never say much other than to bop in every now and again and assure us that things will be better Real Soon Now.

Do note that if you're pasting in your content, rather than typing it from scratch, that triggers the Mollom golem.  It's not the words, it's how they were entered on the page.

            David

Send me the message via private message in my Profile.

I'll give it a shot at posting.

        2. AndyEngel | May 29, 2014 10:20am | #51

          Spam, spam, spam

Dan, you'd be amazed at how much the filters do catch. I can see the list, and it's massive. Of course, it does seem to have a soft spot for UK discount kitchens...

    Try posting now

    Hi David,

There's no way to know for sure what trips a spam filter, but there is a way around it. There's a "trusted user" button that site administrators can push. I just did that for your account. I'll check back, and if you still can't post, I'll look a little deeper. Sorry for the inconvenience.

        Bill

I pushed a button that should make it possible to post.  Hope it works for you.

          it worked. thanks a bunch!

          1. calvin | Dec 03, 2012 09:19pm | #15

            no problem Bill

            happy to help.

Now, if the rest of the software would work as requested, there'd be sainthood.

          2. Gunn | Jan 09, 2013 08:08pm | #16

I too am not trying to post a legit post in the Construction Techniques forum. I keep getting the same error message: "Your submission has triggered the spam filter and will not be accepted."

Can you make me a trusted user also?

          3. calvin | Jan 09, 2013 09:42pm | #17

            Gunn

There you go, hope this works for you.

Damn site, wouldn't have seen your post had I not used the Recent Replies button.  I see that on those pages are all sorts of the spam posts that seemingly easily made it on the board-while you get peg'd .

I say seemingly because they appear to be visible on the Recent Replies page, but most, not in the thread itself.

            go figger.

          4. BillW | Mar 14, 2013 04:48pm | #18

            same problem - spam

Can I be a trusted poster too?

          5. DanH | Mar 14, 2013 08:07pm | #19

Is it a poster our wives would approve of?

    3. lily88 | Mar 15, 2013 05:53pm | #20

Can any administrator push the "trusted user" for me too?

      I meet the same problem:(

    4. earlwood | Oct 17, 2015 12:40pm | #58

Please make me a trusted user as well

I'm having trouble submitting my post as well.  I'm also running up against your spam filter.  Could you possibly look into this form me.  Many thanks in advance.

    So . . .

    where's the stuff?

    (SOW, I've also fallen victim to the errant spam filter here; I found I could get around it by p l a c i n g   s p a c e s   b e t w e e n   e a c h   l e t t e r. Ah, just see what hoops through which they make us jump, just to get a message posted.)

    1. calvin | Nov 26, 2012 12:45pm | #11

      Hok

I pushed the button that should make you a "trusted user"..............

If it works as it's supposed to, you shouldn't have the problem anymore.............

if it doesn't, lemme know so I can bug the shit outta Dan about it.

Is this what they meant by "pennance" in the confessional?

    spam filter block

Can you add me to the magic list as well? My beautifully crafted question is hung in limbo.....

    1. calvin | Jun 20, 2013 10:04pm | #25

      jh

I'll try to push the button that should allow you to post with no problem.

      Best of luck.

      1. mrsmarti | Jul 08, 2013 02:11pm | #26

Spam filter does NOT like me, either

Please, if you can, make the spam filter stop rejecting me.  I'm getting a complex.

Assuming you have the power to fix it, thank you.

But, for all of us frustrated folks:WHY is it happening to so many of us?  Think of all the other the folks who just gave up and didn't write here for a fix.

        1. calvin | Jul 08, 2013 02:26pm | #27

          mrs...........

          Well, at to the why?

I'm just a dumb carpenter who has asked people that run this thing-to make all of the former members a "trusted user", which seems to be a switch that allows posting with no problems.

The spammers seem to be predominantly those that register with the same first and last name .................and I've suggested that those be automatically blocked (until they become creative and register with two different names)..................and maybe use some sort of word instead of the usual jumble of letters that make no sense.

Neither of those suggestions has been implemented.

So, you're stuck with me hopefully seeing an unpublished or blocked post and then going into the room and throwing that "trusted user" switch.  That's all I can do and do apologise.

Try again and maybe it'll work.

So, are you mr. smarti or mrs. marti?

          1. IdahoDon | Jul 11, 2013 10:58pm | #29

well, you are a an effing super hero - what happened over at knots?   It's so full of spam I don't even like looking in there anymore.

          2. calvin | Jul 12, 2013 06:16am | #30

            don

Just a dumb carpenter, and can't say what's up at Knots.  If nobody blocks it or deletes it-it sits there I guess.

            Make me a trusted user?

I tried posting to a forum and got the spam message.  Can you make me a trusted user?

          4. DanH | Jan 23, 2014 07:10am | #42

The trick is to include http://www.exdisplaykitchens1.co.uk in your post -- then it will go right through.

          5. jimblodgett | Jan 23, 2014 09:22am | #43

sorry for the delay, the grandkids are here and we're having a blast!

I apologise for being the only dummy here that can find that switch.  Best of luck and Welcome to BT

          7. prairiescl | Jan 27, 2014 02:27pm | #45

The spam filter has crippled this forum

I'd love to see the spam filter rules. Something like:

if there are no web site links

if there are no obvious company names

if there are no hype-ish words like: "the best!", "subscribe", "offer", etc.

            Then it must be spam.

or possibly, block all users unless they complain.

          8. calvin | Jan 27, 2014 04:41pm | #46

            no kidding

Believe me, it's not from lack of trying..........

The goofiest part of it is that say a newcomer (or 9 yr member, for that matter) comes here, makes an original post.  Most anyone would think-I'm registered and should have no trouble posting............

            no?

            Well, not quite so fast.

That new member (or old one) goes to reply to someone in that NEW POST THEY MADE and lo and behold-SPAM BLOCKER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

not because of a link a swear word a picture of child pornography.........nope,

            Just cuz.

In order for this not to happen there's a "Trusted User" switch that has to be thrown manually for each member-otherwise they're just a "registered user".

If I see a new name and go to their profile and flip that switch...........all is well.

If I don't flip the switch, and they get blocked and I don't see a plea from them in a post (hard if you can't post ain't it).........or I stumble across an "unpublished" post............I have no way of knowing to go throw that switch.

YET, every damn morning almost-those same KITCHEN.uk shit sits on the board..............

So, what the hell are you bit chin about?

            but I digress.

Try calling Taunton or FHB on one of those numbers for customer service in the mag.......or email them and tell 'em what you think.   And feel free to tell them Calvin sent you-the dumb carpenter with the button.............

          9. DanH | Jan 27, 2014 07:33pm | #48

Why can't they make "kitchen.uk" or whatever it is a [JOBSITE WORD], at the very least?

          10. calvin | Jan 27, 2014 04:48pm | #47

            ps

I looked in your profile and damn'd if that button wasn't in the off position.  So, if you've been having problems, try again-I flipped the switch.

            thanks.

        2. DanH | Jul 08, 2013 07:05pm | #28

Actually the filter is working quite well -- it lets spam right through.  Eg, "Mathewtaylor" has no trouble with the filter.

  7. michael_parker | Aug 14, 2013 01:30am | #31

    Sigh - me too.

I've got a question for the forums and it triggers the spam filter.  What a crock.  Can you 'approve' me?

It seems snafu's are not fixed on this site.

Nor or will they obably ever be...

Another person stuck in spam filter hell... any chance of getting on the trusted poster list?

    Thanks, Joe

    1. hmbay | Dec 13, 2015 07:18pm | #61

Never mind... was able to make my post vague enough to get around spam filter.  Dropped any mention of cost, value, square footage, or rooms which is primarily what construction is about so pretty odd to have those in a spam filter!

      1. DanH | Dec 13, 2015 07:31pm | #62

If you'd added stuff about cheap British kitchens it would have made it through.
