I want to use 2X6 T&G fir as sub/finish
flooring. The floor framing is 2X8 on 24″ centers. Joist span is 10′. Will the T&G span 24″? Do I need to put the 2X8s
on 16″ centers? There are no special loads or partition walls.
I don’t have span table for this situation.
Thanks for suggestions.

Fir t+g 2X6 will span 24" no sweat. The joists are open for debate. - jb
*Ditto what Jim says. I've used 2x Fir T&G on 3' centers with no problems.
*I have long been a fan of 24" o.c. frameing. The 10 foot span will work with the right species and grade. Go to http://www.co.wake.nc.us/inspect/buildinginspections/buildinginspections.htm for span charts.
*Are you and KevinHo the same person? Relatives?
*In the Pacific North west the traditional "post and beam floor" Is constructed of 4x12 beams and 4x8 joists 4 feet on center. check local codes for spans. or call your local building inspector, that is what we pay them for.
