I’m told that carpet layers use a special staple that has a longer point, similar to a carpet tack. I’ve looked on the internet and at a local carpet wholesaler with no luck. Does such a staple actually exist and if so, where can I find them? Thanks.

Duo-Fast makes a electric stapler and the staples, just for the carpet industry.
Duofast and Crain make upholstery staplers for carpet work. They are a little different in that they have divergent tips. The ends are angled in opposing directions they end up getting a little better holding power that way. They are quite a bit thinner and shorter than the staples you use in wood working.

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I did find the staples Jason was mentioning and they are exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks again.
