Quick question would a simple household dimmer switch work as a speed controller for a saw with a 1/8 hp motor?
Or should a commercial unit available for routers be used?

Scott,
I dont think houshold dimmers are designed for motor loads. Dremel makes a nice speed control that I use with a Makita die grinder. Its kind of pricy ($60 or so) but mine has lasted for close to 5 years and I use it with some other tools on occasion.
Hope this helps
Bill
Nope but you can buy a controller from MLCS for about 30 bucks.
