I have a question for the painters out there. I’m looking for a spray gun to paint woodwork, cabinets, etc with latex, enamel, etc. I’m a weekend remodeler, not a pro. I have an air compressor with water removal filter. What’s a good cheap gun? I want something versatile, forgiving, easy to clean, that gives a good finish.

Kevin,
Unfortunately, quality costs. There really is no good "cheap" gun.
For versatility, ability to be forgiving, and quality, try a Speedaire, a Craftsman, or a Graco.
As for the easy cleaning, sorry. Cheap or expensive, they all go through the same procedure for cleaning. The difference in quality is in the materials used to make the gun, and the tolernaces of the key parts that deliver the air and paint. This factor will be the noggest difference in the ability of the gun to deliver a quality finish. Unless you have lots of practice at it, YOU will also affect the quality of the finish.
Any of the above three guns will go for around $100.00 There are several more good guns on the market, but they start getting pricy. I inherited one that cost about $275.00 It is a real nice gun, but I would never pay that much for one.

*Help! Anyone know of a public supplier for the RG6 cable fittings and IT1000 tool described on page 97 of March 2002 No. 145. Tried the company listed but they do not sell to public. Thomas & Betts lists fittings as Snap-N-Seal. I only need 50 fittings and tool for new home under construction. Thanks!
*OOOps... JOABFAM, looks like your message ended up in the wrong spot. Anyway, RG6 crimp connectors are readily available, as are the crimp tools. I'm not sure if you're especially set on using the T&B connectors... but if you're looking for stuff that the regular home centers don't carry, you can try Newark Electronics, Allied Electronics, etc. They're big electronics suppliers, you can find them on the web, and they usually carry an assortment of connectors and crimp tools (as well as cable strippers).
*James I can tell you haven't bought a good gun in a while . You just missed it 50 dollars though. And craftsman doesnt belong on the same page with Graco. [just teasing you] Kevin the animal you want is not out there. Sears does have one for a hundred I think. But dont start talking hlvp with latex. The ones that will handle that on a compressor is about 500 dollars. The parts inside are stainless steel. The cheap steel ones are about a hundred, but what is the sense in that ? Takes about 150 to get a good air gun in Devilviss, Binks, or Graco. I dont know if the craftsman is stainless.Happy paint trails,Tim ps. hope some one can correct me on the hlvp stainless costs. I havent been able to come up with a sourse to buy one in the last few years. A body painter told me 500 a few years ago.Im talking about just the gun that uses your compressor.
*I just bought an OM Green HVLP gun from Jeff Jewitt at homesteadfinishing.com. I am happy with it. I called Jeff and discussed my 15-amp motor and a 20-gallon tank with 7cfm at 40psi compressor. He suggests a pressure regulator for the gun since I will be using 60 feet of hose. The package cost $158. I have used it to paint a metal project with Iron oxide paint. IT worked great after about 5 minutes of me adjusting things. Jeff wrote a good set of instructions that go with the Italian gun. I have no vested interested just a happy customer.
