I was asked to fix a squeaky floor.
18 month old house. Squeaks running parralel to floor joists for about 10′. Can’t see or feel any movement in 3/4″ subfloor when a person makes it squeak. It looks like it was glued well and in most places very tight to joists. Tried putting shims in the few spots that had slight gaps to no avail. No nail visible that could cause squeek. No “other factors” like duct workand pipes rubing. I am lost. In desperation I put a straightedge across the floor. There is a dip in the hardwood (about 1/16-3/16) along the entire floor that runs parralel with the floor joists. Could the floor be low there and the hardwood while trying to follow the dip did not completely lay flat and now there is a slight gap between the hardwood/subfoor so the hardwoos floor nails now squeek? Oh and it goes away in the summer. Thanks to any responders.

Paul,
I was chasing a squeek with a new homeowner just recently on the 2nd deck near the stairs were the Tji's meet a microlam. After ripping up the carpet I could see that the subfloor was not moving and had been screwed correctly, not to mention the screws the punchout guy had added on his preceding visit. I was laying out a line and removing screws from the saw path so I could cut a hole to look at the joist hangers when I found that one of the screws the flooring guys had used had snapped of just past the collar. It was squeeking with movement caused by the joist moving at the joist hanger under just the right circumstance. All fixed no squeek happy homeowner.
good luck
