Want to put a new appliance panel on my dishwasher, you know, the colored skins you can buy to change the flat front… anyway, the local HD sells a panel of brushed stainless steel, they call it a stove back splash. Want to use this for the dw panel… but it needs to be cut. It’s fairly thick, will regular tin snips do, or how do I cut it? Anyone know of sheet metal shops that will make-up such a panel to size rea$onable?

A local shop will probably shear whatever you bring them for about a buck. We have no idea where you live, but if you are thinking of shipping this thing you haven't looked hard enough for a local shop.

How about clamping it between two pieces of scrap pine. Put an abrasive metal cutting blade in a skill saw. Put goggles on your face and two layers of ear muffs and cut, cut away ??? However, a local shop could probably cut it too.

Oh yeah! a power saw is a fantastic way to discolor and even warp your panel. I agree that you should just run it down to the nearest sheet metal shop and have them shear it off for you.

*Bobby, I promise you that you want to have the stainless sheared. Get the material from a sheet metal shop which does commercial kitchens. I did this for a client a couple of months ago, and the dishwasher panel cost arount $25.00. Ask for at least 20ga brushed stainless. Indicate if you want the grain horizontal or vertical. The material will come covered with a vinyl film to keep it from being scratched. One tip: we had to adjust the dishwasher door springs to accomodate the heavier weight of the new panel (we used 18ga).The brushed panels we added to the dishwasher and compactor up-dated the kitchen and matched nicely with the new high-dollar gas range. Good luck, Steve

I have done lots of boat work and used stainless as backer plates for fittings. I cut my stainles that was about 1/16" with a wood bandsaw using a fine tooth blade. I agree use sheet metal shop to shear the panel if you can.
