Stack Effect/Old house/Spray foam/Attic
Hello-
Here’s the situation, I live in and renovated an 1890’s Farmhouse. Gutted, down to the studs, spray foam, open cell, sprayed in the roof line in the rafters of the attic.
My question is this, in the summer when it is hot, I could open the two gable windows in the attic to create a cross flow and draw more warm air up into the attic, thereby drawing more cool air in from outside……or keep the windows closed…..
What is the best thing to do in this situation.
Thanks

If you're not running the AC and you'd be drawing air from the house proper then it's a no-brainer. If you're running the AC then presumably you'd not try to draw air from the house, and it boils down to whether you can lower the attic temp without creating enough vacuum in the house to draw out the ACed air. The devil is in the details.
