I am looking for recommendations for a good stain to use on a pine tongue and groove ceiling and exposed pine rafters. I have been told by our contractor to choose a semi-transparent oil-based stain but am a bit lost on preferred brands and/or types.
It will be applied to a covered patio in Georgia, so we will get humidity but will be protected from the elements (with the exception of the outward-facing side of the open gable roof).
A slightly rustic, light, warm brown is the look we are after. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I’m assuming the grade of the pine isn’t knotless.
Be aware that with the heat of the roof that more than likely there would be bleed through of the knots if painted or solid stain was used.
And I’d hope you are prestaining before install. The tongues and grooves shrink as they dry. Depending on how acclimated they are at time of install.

Really, most of these will be fine. Your local big box home improvement or lumber yard should have choices.
If you are picky, get a small container of the stain and see how you like how the color comes out on some scraps from the build.
Assuming it is already up, be careful and tarp the whole area underneath. make sure to wear eye protection to catch any drips headed for your eyes.
A long handle roller or pad will come in handy.
To achieve the desired effect, you may want to layer the coats followed by a clear coat when the whitewash is dry. These techniques for whitewashing pine paneling are quite helpful, and by the way, this stain is best suited for pine.
