stain like coloration on wall and ceiling studs
please see attached photo
either stain or smudge, grey/black color atop the wall running along with
virtually every wall stud and ceiling joist.
Ideas what this might be from? or has somebody seen it before?
excessive humidity for long long period of time?
I will view the house wed and get hands on closer look

Extreme dampness and perhaps way more smoking than one person that never went outside could do.
Or the same damp or humid conditions and some house cleaning over a whole lot of years.
Or a plant fetish coupled with the above.
What you can’t see might be worse, behind that drywall. The stud and joist spacing seems extreme. Was this a double wide?
If a framed dwelling, concrete floor? What climate is this in?
thanks for the reply,
its a raised foundation in hot dry sacramento, there was a water leak that caused a 4x8 sheetrock piece to collapse off the ceiling. but that was recent. the looks of the discoloration looks like a very long term project, house was built in the 1940's.
I saw enough to not follow up anymore.

Good move.
That looks like a classic case of thermal tracking.
thanks MM, sounds like that could be it, guessing from age of house and hot sacramento, houses were built with no insulation and.... 1 wall heater in the center of house for heat!!
