I did an ipe deck and stairs for a customer. She went and saw an ipe deck that I had done last year and was well aware of the grey/silver color ipe changes to over time. She called the other day and asked if there was any way to stain or seal the wood to get it back to its original color, or to give it a deeper tone than the weathered grey.
I was under the impression that ipe was so dense that it would not absorb any type of penetrating oil stain or sealer. If applied, it would just sit on top and not absorb into the wood. I do know that Cabbot makes a special deck stain for tropical woods, but I don’t know if it can be used on ipe.
Anyone with any experience in this?
