I saw on an episode of This Old House , Tom Silva nailing down Ipe with a Senco 15 gauge finish gun. Is this a doable option or should I just stick to SS trim heads? I already am familiar with all the under deck options and am not interested.

I'm pretty sure if you nail it down with finish nails, you have to use an adhesive also.
http://www.manasquanfasteners.com is a good source for the nails.

I made the mistake of doing that once. Never again. Within two years all the nails had worked their way out. You need a nail with a deformed shank, like a ring shank, or just use screws.
Are you sure Tommy wasn't using a siding nailer?
He used SS finish nails and 3m marine adhesive. You are correct, he used a senco finish nailer, the older style, it was definitely not a siding nailer. finish nails will go into Ipe fine, I've never tried siding nails but doubt they would.
Not a good plan. We have a huge mahogany deck and every year nails get pulled and replaced by SS trim head screws. It would have been cheaper to do it right the first time. Some builders.....
