any tips on the BEST fastening technique: 1-1/4″inch X 1-1/4″inch ballusters to a plowed end on the underside of an oak handrail (3″) and to a 12″ ht. above stair tread top surface mini-knee wall(on open side of L-shaped stairs with landing at mid point. Upper portion of stairwell and landing are closed in with drywall on both sides. Bottom set of stairs has open side on one side. Using 3″ X 3″ starter post(lower point)-oak attached to oak plowed/fillet handrail- connected to 1/2 starter post mounted to drywall (higher elevation). ballusters will be attached to center of existing 3/4″thick X 8″wide X 7″ft. pine wood on the flat. Would it make sense to route out in-lays to join bottom of ballusters to existing trim?. With the bottom wall section being on an incline the dowel at the base of the turned ballusters does not seem practical for joinery. as far as the 2sided bolt-screw(1 piece) to join the ballusters to the plowed underside of the top handrail, what is the proper sequence or technique for joinery?? thank you!!!!!!!!!!! if possible add a plowed shoe at the half wall then dab a little PL premium on either end of the balluster and on the filet pieces should be all you need . if you cant add a shoe use a dowel on the half wall still with the PL ,the screw type dowels will not work in this application. good luck.
