Greetings, What is the proper technique to terminate the end grain on stair treads? I have been told several ways including, make returns and glue on, cut end square and rout, add returns with tongue and groove? What do YOU think?

Miter and cut out the end of the tread for a return nosing.........I wouldn't rout the end! A return nosing has the profile of the front of the tread with the scotia attached. That's what I would do! jocobe
Economy job - router ends to same profile
Real job - mitred return
I do a miter return and glue the return on with biscuits.
