What a week. I was able to start my first stairway in the new addition while the construction crew was demolishing my old part and rebuilding.
Here are some pictures of my first stairway. It will have maple treads and poplar skirts/risers. It is freestanding and so I will have steel studs in the belly of the stairs for the plasterers.
Please note…..unlike my other addition which never was painted…I am doing this one right. The walls are painted….:) and I will trim the windows.

Its looking good Stan, might have to hang some fancy lighting to go with those beautiful stairs though.
Hey, is that doorway big enough? I hate it when I build a boat in the basement, and I've got wait for a flood to get it out LOL Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Bucksnort.....That door is plenty big. Usually I have only a 3 ft. door to get the stair into the house. That door is 6 ft. x 7 ft. I still have a wide open cased opening into my main part of my stairshop..and that is 8 ft x 12 ft.

I remember my dad telling me about his boat building. He did get it out of the basement and his buddy didn't and it was still there all those years!!!
When does the cupola get hoisted?
John: I have one cupola up..the one left in my shop is waiting to be shingled..and the contractor rebuilding my shop took off to the Bahamas for ten days.
The other cupola took four guys to carry each section up to the peak. They are real heavy.

We are in the presents of greatness! From looking at the pics, the man builds stairways to heaven on a regular basis! Or are those stairs just for changing all those light bulbs on the vaulted ceiling? :-)Matt
