I am setting this maple stairway next week. I glued up the stringers the end of last week…and spent this week routing and mitering the stringers…and the Thursday and Friday I installed the treads.
Monday I am putting in the starting step and trimming this stairway out.
The last 3 pictures show my make shift trammel operation milling out the scotia trim. That operation only took one hour to mill out the 15 curved scotia trim.

Stan is that window trim I see in picture 2520, stairs look super, just kidding on window trim.
Thanks Stan, how do you cut the scotia off the blank?
I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
"Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in Las Vegas,
And he can do it here."
snort....real crudely...seriously. I just hack out about 1/4 inch away from the cove profile....and cut these to a little longer than they need to be. My trim is already nailed on to the risers and mitered. I miter the end of the curved scotia...get the angle just right by holding an even reveal against the curved nosing...then I scribe to fit the skirtboard.
A quick trip to my 12 inch disc sander and I grind down the line. It fits the first try everytime.....well almost ....I do once inawhile go and rescribe and grind again.

hmmm, simple yet effective... but... do you cut it off with a jigsaw or bandsaw?http://www.tvwsolar.com
