We are landscaping part of our property in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and our landscape archetect suggested stamped asphalt for our patio. I don’t know aything about it, but I have looked at a couple of installations in our neighborhood. It appears interesting.
However, I have a few nagging questions. I’ve heard that the life expectancy for asphalt is around 10 years. Is this so? And, if so, what do you do at the end of that time? Dig it up and replace it?
The new materials for Decks, for instance, have a longer life expectancy I believe. One lumber salesman told me that pressure treated lumber has a life expectancy of 30 years, and Trex and Epoch may last even longer than that.
So I’m left wondering about the pro’s and con’s of patio/deck materials today. The stamped asphalt/concrete is interesting in that it can be colored and arranged in interesting patterns. But, there’s something to be said for a simple deck with some interesting handrails or something that may last 3 times longer.
I searched the internet but aside from coming up with a couple of companies who do the work (none in my area listed on the internet) I didn’t find much informative.
Has anyone had any experience, or am I missing something?
