I’m building a couple of closets and does anyone know what the depth of a clothes closet should be? 24 ” seems small 30′ seems bit bit to big ,is there a standard?

24" clear works...add a few inches if it seems tight.

We frame 25" so it finishes 24"

Most plans I see call for 2' 4" framing inside to inside to finish out at 27" clear....go figure. Maybe I've been working with the same archy too much lately.
In a pinch, just measure a coat hanger and add a coupla inches!
Far as I know, 24" is standard, 22" is 'absolute minimum'. (Finished)

I have read that a slightly deeper closet is nice if there are going to be heavy coats, parkas and such. Doesn't make much difference down here in Florida but it might be a consideration in Maine. Maybe 28' would be a good working figure to use on the closet by the main entrance used in the winter.
Other closets I wouldn't think this would be worthwhile 24 or 25" would be OK. I must say that the extra inch might help with dress shirts, the one I own.
