This wooden framed City Standpipe was built in 1897 in Bangor Me. for the city’s water supply needs.
Inside is a tank of steel that holds a million gallons of water- it’s still in use today.
Tonite there is a tour up 100 steps to the columned level for people to enjoy the views.
My present project is just down the hill from it so I’ll be taking some photos tonite of the job.

Cool! We don't have those down here, and i just re-read Stephen King's IT, where the standpipe topples down a hill. The description fits that perfectly.
Thanks for filling in my mental blank.

I've never met a man that was owed as much as he thought he was.
Walter,
Thanx for sharing. The EPA would prolly not let that type construction be built today.
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
Chuck, In my reply to Forrest above I took a picture tonite of the plaque out front. Interesting reading. Best regards, Walter
Forrest,
He only lives just a few blocks from this structure.
I was wrong it holds 1.75 million gallons of water.
Here are a couple of shots of the roof job I have underway just below the Standpipe.
