I took a friend up today in my gyrocopter for as a Christmas present.
Price of fuel…$20
The look on his face during a vertical descent…PRICELESS
He is a seasoned pilot…but had never been up in a gyrocopter. It defied everything that was in his senses….a gyrocopter cant stall…as I slowed it to 0 mph….and descended vertically and slowly turning….his face was frozen.
HO HO HO…and Merry Christmas everyone….

Piffin: I have flown gyrocopters since 1985. I was building the one I fly this time last year. I first flew it in March 2006. I have around 135 hours in it now. I love flying that thing,

I think Ill share somthing with you since you made the statement about the pilot going 0 in the air.
I have coffee with a bunch of old guys at McDonalds every morning .
About once a week we have an old friend of mine that sits in. DW used to run our air port here and this guy was a daily because he flew for the forestry. He retired after 20 years flying fire watch of our mountains. Theres no tellig how many hours hes got flying.
So after reading one of your posts one morning then off to coffee he was sitting there when I showed up.
I asked him about it and he said well, the army took him up to look for a lost plane in the mountains for a week. The foresrty had lended him to the cause because of his knowledge of the area. He rode with them in a helicopter.
He noted the ride up in the air was unusual but when they had been traveling around 50 mph they stopped dead still and pointed the helicopter forward for a look at the first of the charted places they were supposed to have a look at a brown spot , he almost froze. He said he never got used it. Otherwise hes at home in the air in a plane . He cant count the times he practiced flying back to the airport with out power for emergency practice and was comfortable with that . He took a run with a helicopter pilot and on the way home he cut power . The same result occurred with him.
