Finished up outside today. Still have to trim out inside. Used a Therma, Tru Smooth Star door. Wood stiles with a 5/32 or so smooth fiberglass skin over, not the wood grain thing. Should be fun……the wall with the door is out of plumb 2″ on 8′. The siding was once tapered out somehow to compensate, so I set the door plumb to the exterior siding and will cut angled extension jambs for the interior because the wall finish follows the out of plumb frame.

You can also see a couple of areas of bevel siding that I replaced. The existing siding was installed in the early 1980’s best we can tell and is masonite, no bevel and it is falling apart. No sheathing, no tarpaper………YUK!!
I’ve heard it said “they sure don’t build them like they used to”, sometimes I’m glad they don’t!

That Smooth Star skin on the door is 3/32 at absolute max. And if the engineers at Therma-Tru have "value engineered" it in the few years since I've left, it might be much closer to 1/16". Open it and look at the top edge . . . you'll see the skin thickness best there.
yeah, you're right, that was a typo. 3/32, just a little more than 1/8.
First one I've seen, wasn't impressed, but I did like it. That is if you can get past all the globs of goo hangin out all over the place.
Not my idea of the ultimate door, but good for the money just the same, people seem to like them.
I've been thinking about the door install $ thread from a few weeks ago.........this one's going well over $1000.00 with all the 'conditions' I have to deal with. Let see the HD Home Services Pro tackle this one for a couple a hundred bucks!

They are what they are. Certainly more handsome than a steel door, and won't get dented by the plumber coming through with a couple tool buckets in tow. Take paint well, and the paint will last longer than on wood.
But you can't beat the look and feel of a well-made wood door. If you've got the jack, I like 'em made from pattern-grade mahogany.

Tell um to take there X-mas lights down!
Someone else said it, thats one unique front!

Christmas lights........those are the 'year round' white lights that so many have taken a liking to in these parts anyway.
I'm still wondering how that roof was framed......probably some 'amazing framing' like I might find elsewhere on this house!
Eric
That front's ugly, but it's about doubleugly seen from the side.
How drunk were they?

Gee this is old, I wonder where these threads go and then some how just show up?
Stangest damn thing I ever seen. You should see the stairs that wind up over in the right hand side!
I'm still stumped as to how the roof was framed, that is if it even was!
Eric
Any chance you could move the meter and weather head?
The porch and porch roof are definetly unique but the placement of electrical service sure detracts from the fine work you 've been doing.
mmm
If you moved the ugly meter and weater head to the side or even trenched it, you coud add another window on the left side to balance the house out.
...... then it would be realy purty....
