Brought the camera to work yesterday, here’s why you want a good tile guy…
Only one floor joist in the room was continuous, and the floor/subfloor looks to have been torn up and patched over about 6 times.
Almost makes you wonder why we use wood in/under bathrooms at all!
I’m going to repair the framing, subfloor, and bump out the end wall 12″ to put a small drop-in tub in the alcove. Tile everything. (yeah I know I didn’t support above when I took out the wall–the ceiling joists run the other way (?) and there wasn’t much holding anything up to start. I’ll header across the whole opening today)
That last one is the diamond earring I found in tub trap with all the slimy old toenails and junk… (really!)
(I was told it was there)

Turn it on and something spins, but not the fan! Probably been that way for 10 years.
I'll put in a nice can/fan thing with an EFI auto timer switch.

Funny you mention that. We tore down a house yesterday that was built in 1960. The job is a tear down and rebuild. Anyway when we were stripping some of the inside to re-use (den built-in cabinets), I smelled moisture in the walls. My helper said it was just old house and I said that I didn't think so. When the excavator grabbed hold of it yesterday, the walls were full of rot all the way around. The house was designed by an archy for his parents. It had a flat roof with parapet walls on all sides, roof drains running down inside the walls, and true stucco exterior. The nose was right!

Ya know......
I LOVE projects like that.
That kind of sight makes the homeowners MUCH more accepting of doing it "the right way".
And paying for it.
And I get to make something they will be proud of (and safe in) for the next fifty years.
