I’m a DIYer an about to tackle a new skill set. I am putting the HardieShingle Straight Edge Notched Panel on on the second floor of my cape cod with 3 shed dormers. These planks are 48″ x 16″ and call for a 1 1/4″ starter strip, followed by the 8 1/4″ starter plank to begin the first row. That’s easy enough. My question is how do you start a dormer that follows a steep roof angle? Do you run the starter courses along the roof line and not parallel to the siding? Something about that doesn’t seem right.

No starter on the angled wall, just top notch flashing techniques. Hold 2" above roofing.

That seems way to easy ... not that I'm complaining, but it has to be more difficult than that. Also, these panels have notches in them, thus a starter strip seems necessary. They are rather like roof shingles.Edited 8/11/2008 11:19 pm ET by apiersma

obnoxious self bump .. really just looking for confirmation of Shellbuilder's advice.
He is correct, I don't have anything to add, other than the advise is right!
Thank you ... I appreciate it.
