Any hands on experience out there. A client requested it. I’ve worked with the sheet style but I need tips on how this stuff works.

Really, really well, but EXPENSIVE. Go to Gerard on line; thay make a steel roof that is guaranteed forever against everything except the Hand of God reaching down and ripping the roof off. Mine paid off w/i the first month of installation - thunder stormw/ BIG hail and high winds. neighbors lost shingles and had damage. I heard my roof laughing its butt off while it was rolling around on the ground, taunting the storm.
Everyone that sees my roof loves it - get great compliments on it. Looks just like rael shingles, but better. All the new & rehabbed La Quinta Inns are getting this roof.

*What do old growth (>150 YO) Doug fir needles (high acid) do to this type roof? What is the finish technology? Considered it when re-roofing 2 years ago, but I've had galv gutters rust thru in 3 years, powder coat paint go in 4 years, and you don't dare leave your car in my drive overnight unless you want spotty paint. Note: needles off younger trees don't seem as destructive.
*Here's another manufacurerhttp://www.met-tile.com/I don't have first hand experience with either manufacturer, but I'm interested in the subject becasue I'm looking for alternatives to replace 100yr old terra cotta pictured below.Don, Any idea what the material cost per square was?Any other folks out there with direct experience?
*Art B.regarding the finish, this is from the Gerard site:i "All Gerard products have a base material of pre-painted GALVALUME coil steel. The attractive Gerard Tile profile provides the aesthetics of traditional tile without the excessive weight. The Gerard Shake has a stepped and grained profile which simulates the natural elegance of traditional hand-split wood shake. Crushed and graded stone granules are bonded to the steel panels with an internationally proven acrylic resin formula. A clear acrylic overglaze is applied and then oven curing completes the process. The underside of the panels are protected with a final coat of polyester paint."
*Stray: Not a fair question for my house. It is a gambrel roof w/a hip end and 5 dormers. I suspect they nearly wrapped the job in their shirt when finished. Took them nearly a week to install. If I recall, we paid nearly $11,000 for a roof over 1300 sq ft of slab. But - remember, it is a Gambrel, so there is a lot of steep sides that are really walls. We still love it. We bought it because we are out in the pine woods of Nawth Jawja, far from the fire house. Home owners insurance outfit warned us we had better get a totally non destructable roof if we wanted insurance at a reasonable rate. This is as close as we could get. It checks in at 1.5 lb/sq ft. Probably a third of that is the nails holding it down. Every nail in it is loaded in shear. No tension nails at all, except those holding down the battens. Has not shed the first speck of crushed gravel after a bit more than a year.DonDon
*I've heard of a type that is just steel without the aggregate. This type is stamped with a tab shingle pattern and in horizontal courses. Any one know?
