A while back I read a post in this forum that said something to the tune of ” I’d rather be roofing by myself than working for the man”. Well, I’m roofing. 90 sq. of taper sawn cedar shakes an a 10/12 pitch. Anyhoo I’m looking fopr some tips to make this job go as smooth as possible. Anybody got any good hint about stocking the roof or laying the courses. This is not the first shake roof I have done but it is a steep son of a gun. Any help would be appreciated.

saw an article in fhb 2-3 yrs ago about roofing from the top down. Set your scffold 3-4 ft down from the top, lay one layer of paper, lay your shingles, move scaffold down. Gotta wrestle with the right lap for 25% of the time, but you're doing it on a scaffold without messing up your shakes. I'm sure someone with better retention than me can give you the issue or better detail than me
Top down would be a tough act for for shakes.http://grantlogan.net/
But you all knew that. I detailed it extensively in my blog.
