Nothing to speak of really.
I went to repair the door jambs on a neighbors house on thursday ( remove rot and replace with epoxy) and discovered that not only were the jambs rotting but the threshold had completely turned to peat moss. I found that as I started digging into things. nothing that even resembles wood left. She ended up ordering another stanley door from home despot but it's a 3 week leadtime (door with two sidelites). so nothing to do there until it comes in.
Speaking of stanley doors. They are pretty much the choice for spec homes and alot of replacements as well, but what's with the jambs rotting in 4 - 5 years?
everywhere I go these doors are turning to mulch right in front of the owners eyes. even doors that appear to have been installed properly.
does stanley use cheap primer and more importantly do they even prime the endgrain on the jambs before assembling the thresholds to them? I don't think so based on what I see.
I have a 16' x 16' room to run crown in tomorrow. MDF stuff that should take all of a couple of hours.
Other than that nothing else going on. I'm trying to get in a week or two with Sonny but this door leadtime issue is pushing that back.
This friday I'll finally get to install that control panel I built and get some money for that.
I'm still wrestling with ideas for the company name as well thinking that what it is now may be a miniscule part of the problem (the major problem according to most around the FHB site is me, which could very well be). that and the fact that the line of work I do is probably where there is the most competition.
Lots of things to work out. I just keep trying everything I can to scrounge up leads and make contacts. I hope it starts to pay off.
Reality is that if I can't make it with this I'm sunk. I couldn't even try to get back into engineering (not that I want to) as industry around here is dying an agonizing death as one company after another lays off or moves away. so I'd have to try and sell my house at a major loss if I even can and look elsewhere. I really want to stay in this line of work though because I think this is my calling. when I am working at it I am happier than I can ever remember.
Anyway that's my sob story, how's things for you Mike? are they getting better? if things finally materialize with the trip to Sonny's maybe I can swing over and meet you if you're somewhat close or along the way from here.
Steve
