Bought a Bostitch N88RH, a new gun that has a removable tip to shoot nails into metal connectors. Only problem is, I can’t find any (connector nails, that is.) Stanley-Bostitch web site doesn’t list them, neither does Amazon, and HD doesn’t carry them. Anyone know where I can buy some?
Thanks.

Nick,
We have that gun, but can't find the connector tip to buy aftermarket. We can get nails at our local lumberyard for that gun. They are made by Tree Island
Thats the gun that is either a framer or for hangers right?
How do you guys like it, pros, cons....
I'm thinking of replacing my framer, and going with hitchia but the idea of having a hanger nailer also is appealing
How easy is it to switch the tip and how easy is it to align the nail in the hole?
I read the article but would like a little more info from first hand experiences

CAG,
It's almost too easy to swap tips. Press a button (the depth adjuster for the standard tip) and the tip slides out. Keep the button pressed and slide in the tip. The point rests in the connector hole, sqeeze and it's there. The main drawback is that the gun has to be placed near perpendicular to the connector, or the nail won't shoot flat (need to pound it down with a hammer.) As it didn't come with a bag or case, my big concern is losing the tip that's not installed at the moment. Have to figure out some way to keep it close.
At the JLC show in Providence, I talked to the writer of the gun review FHB did this month and he really talked it up. Sold me, so I went and bought it. I like it, now if I could only find some nails. . .
I never met a tool I didn't like!
Tim,
Try this for the tip, this is the company that sold me the gun, and they said they had the tips.

Hey Guys...
I'm looking at buying one of those "Bostitch N88RH-2MCN Industrial High-Powered Round Head Framing Nailer and Metal Connector" nailers. I have a PC FR350 full round head nailer and I am sick of having to bang down about 1/2 the nails it shoots, but still want to stick with a gun that will shoot the Senco style plastic collated nails, and definitely want a full round head nailer because I don't like the looks of clipped head nails for exposed locations like decks and siding. From looking around on the web, I'm a little confused because it looks like the PC uses 22 degree nails where as the Bostitch uses a 21 degree nail. Are they interchangeable? Not sure what Senco guns use. One thing I will say for the PC is that it will fire any full round head plastic collated nails that I can through at it with very few jambs. Availability of nails shouldn't be a problem since Senco, Hitachi, generic (Grip-rite) and Bostitich nails are all readily available to me, although I'm not sure about gun style joist hanger nails.
I have never bought a Bostitch nailer in the past because I never wanted to be locked into having to buy Bostitch nails, but it kinda looks like this gun may use what the rest of them used.
I was thinking about the Hatachi gun, but I was unsure about the adjustability of the depth-of-drive, and then I ran across this Bostitch one with the metal connector attachment and the mucho easy to adjust depth-of-drive. My impresson from limited use of Bostitch guns in the past is that they really do a good job of slamming the nails home.
Any thoughts or direct experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
Here is a web link to the gun I'm asking about:

matt... we've had the N88RH for almost 2 years now..
we can use any 21 degree plastic collated nail full headed nail on the market..
the one we use most of the time is a generic ..."Stallion Collated Nails" the box is marked for:
Hitachi NR83A, Duofast CN350, Senco -SN60 , Makita AN8300 and something called
POR (whatever that is)...
been really happy with the N88RH Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Thanks Mike. I went ahead and ordered the gun. The most important thing to me is to get a hastle free tool, but the price I ended up paying ($265) made me happy too. Now if I can just figure out where to get the joist hanger nails to put in it... I'm guessing I can't just get a 5# box of strong tie nails and dump em in..... :-)

Dirishinme: attached is a list of metal connectors nails you can use in your nailer. You can buy them at any Bostitch distributor that carries the MCN gun. BTY the metal connector galv. nails will meet requirements for the new ACQ wood that replaces CCA. lumber.Bostitch also has a dealer listing on their site.
Good luck

I bought the same gun new from Ebay and love it but "hate" the generic nails. Seems to make my gun jam too often with that plastic crap.
Once I started with the Bostich nails everything went much better.
Still jams but not as much.....whats up with that anyway???
I also changed the trigger so I don't over fire as much.
BE well

I have one of the Bostitch units and it works fine with Generic nails.

I've had that particular Bostitch for about 6 months now and love it. Like's been said generic 21* full head nails work fine, I get mine at Lowes. As for the metal connector nails I've purchased a box at Stock, out on Yonkers Road, seeing as your info says you're a Raleighite I figure you know where that is. Just so you don't have a coronary when you but them, the box I got was about $75 I believe, compared to about $25 for the 10 d's, they said it was because they don't get many of those in so there's no 'volume' discount. But one deck later and you will be so happy you don't have to hammer home all those hanger nails. Glad to see someone else from Raleigh out there in here.

Thanks Garfield,
I got the part numbers from the link on an earlier post, and am going to start calling around tomorrow. If the big boxes don't have them, I'll go to Stock. Thanks for the warning on the price too... that way, if I find them for $60 I'll feel good about it...
I've got a large porch ceiling to frame in about a week, and it's gonna have a bunch of hangers, so I'll have a good chance to try it out. Matt
I've had the clipped head version of that for well over two years now.. It's been great I love sinking nails into solid oak!
One warning.. the first box tends to have a lot of jams, skips etc. just spray the nail slot with WD40 and use a generic nail. by the time you are into the second box you'll forget about the hassle and from then on it seems to be fairly bullet proof..
"bullet proof"....
now that's my kind of tool!!!Matt
Follow up question....
I ended up getting the Bostitch N88RH that shoots joist hanger nails too. Of coarse, you can't find the shooter joist hanger nails anywhere. Anyone try to shoot regular nails through the joist hanger nose attachment?
Other than that, I love the gun...Matt
OK - I tried it - very carefully - had about 15 hangers to install. Safety glasses, looked away when pulling the trigger, didn't have my hands *anywhere* hear the hanger, etc. Worked fine... Was shooting 10p HD galvanized.Matt
Not finding nails, or having to pay out the wazzoo for them, seems to be a major complaint against the gun. Someone said Numax 800 842-4230 is a source. I've seen prices on the order of $70/3000 for the 1-1/2 and $100/3000 for the 2-1/2.
That and the extra $50 for the attachment is steering me in other directions. For one deck I guess I'll have to do some nail pounding.
my 2d gun came with the nose.... $187 with the trade-in..
i can get nails lots of places..
but Dajo Sales is agood source..
also.. Maze Nails will make up nails for any gunMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Mike and Jet: I'll check those sources.
ThanksMatt
I bought this gun a month ago, and I discovered that my local Ace hardware store can get the 1 1/2 hanger nails for me from their warehouse. The Ace numbers you need are:
2096113 1 1/2 x .131 galvanized
2096121 1 1/2 x .148 galvanized
Go to your local Ace hardware store and they can look it up on their computer.

Those don't look like Bostitch part numbers. What brand of nails are they? Also, are they hot dipped galvanized?
ThanksMatt
Matt:
Those are Ace part numbers FOR Bostitch nails. They can also look them up by the Bostitch numbers. My local Ace guy called a couple days ago to say that the Ace warehouse had one box left but that it was the older galvanized product, not the "thick coat" galvanized made for ACQ. Now he is trying to work with Bostitch directly to locate stock. Finding the nails IS annoying. This nailer is great for regular framing nails, but the switchover to the tip for hanger nails was the whole gimmick. Bostitch really needs to step up to the plate here and make some razor blades for this great razor!

Matt, Trust me on this one....don't use any nails but Bostich nail for nailing off teco's. Get the 148 diameter one and a half inch nails. To tell you the truth we have used Bullseye nails for framing, the purple coated spirals, in 10d size, and they were alright, but the Bostich work so much better and they are actually less expensive. Our local tool store stocks them now, but I went through the same problem with getting them in the beginning. Shooting into a joist hanger can be a little scary in itself so why take a chance with some inferior nail? Doug
