Hi all,
I have an interesting problem…the ceiling in my new home have faux stipple ceiling. This meaning that it is not actual stipple, just actual painted on look alike. So having said all this what is my best option without breaking the bank to do it, I want to get rid of this look. Being that it is not stippled I cannot just wet and scrape.
Any great suggestions? Something that I can perhaps do myself.

Do you mean you have a “roll coat” finish?
I am not sure if that is what it would be called but it is definitely rolled on with that lumpy stipple effect and very spotty so I wish to eliminate or.??
Skim coat the entire ceiling.
Yup skim coat it. There is a technique where you can thin the drywall compound with water and roll it on with a paint roller. Knock down the bumps with a large drywall knife and sand when done.
Thank you for all your advice big help
