I’d like to face the exposed part of my basement with stone or possibly cultured stone. The largest exposure is about four feet above the ground. Any suggestions regarding support of the stone and/or attachment to the wall.

See a masonry contractor.
Cultured stone needs to be applied with the manufacturer's own stuff or a mortar mixed to their specs. It is usually supported by diamond lathe. I just follow their directions. Having done quite a few, I often wonder if you could use thinset, but have never tried it.
