Stone veneer porch column bases – sizing concrete core
I am planning on using stone veneer on the porch column bases. The core of the column bases will be poured reinforced concrete.
Is there a logical dimension for the concrete core? I am thinking of the manufactured corner pieces and the module length. (i.e. I would hate to pour the cores 16″ square when 14″ would have been perfect fit.)
Thanks
John

Why not go ahead and buy the stuff, see how it fits.
Select the stone first
I tend to agree taht you should buy the stone first if you can.
You may not need to buy the stone first, but you do need to at least decide what you are going to use, and download the installation instructions from the manufacturers website. Almost all of them have the instructions / catalog of what they have available online at their website. The information is easier to get at some site than others, but if you contact their tech support, they should be able to give you advice. But you might have to know which style of veneer you are going to use, as the sizing does vary by the style.
You should also contact any local distributors a manufacturer might list, because the websites are frequently out of date, and the closest supplier of a particular brand may now be 5 or 6-hours away, instead of half an hour.
if i had the storage i might buy it now
But I don't.
The internet research i have done indicates the man-made ledge rock i am interested in comes in a 4" height, and in 8, 12 , & 20" lengths.
A 16" overall column would seem to work out nicely (i.e. I am not cutting every second stone). Now i just have to determine the thickness and mortar allowance and should be able to size my concrete cores.

It sounds more like you need a 20" column if you don't want to be cutting a lot of stone.
8+12 = 20.

Are there corner pcs available and how does that layout with the rest? I'd assume they'd keep the same dimension running with the 8/12/20. Worth a call I would think to the manufacturer or the good distributor and asking them.
"Hey Maynard, I'm using these for columns. What size should I pour? How do those corners come (if made) so I don't have to cut anything"
