Here is some stone and brickwork I did on a house I built a year of so ago. Front of the house is sandstone and the fireplace is something the owner got out of a creek bed in Kentucky. The fireplace stone was miserable stuff to work with but the sandstone is a pleasure. Enjoy

I'm generally a wood man but that's a neat fireplace. same with the entrance.
Nice work

Thanks for the complement.I'm a wood man as well but this is what the customer wanted. It helps to be a 4th generation bricklayer. I much prefer working wood though.

looks good, really like the fire place, how did you get the mantle to stay? are the stones just inset, or is there some sort of rebar or something bored into them and then attached to the frame?
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, Professionals build the Titanic.
Thanks Neil,
The mantle stones are cantilevered into the stone face so in effect , all the weight of the stones above rests on them. They are extremely hard and not porous at all which made them a royal pain in the butt to lay. The sandstone on the outside is a pleasure to work with but not those suckers.
