I installed a custom wood storm door in November, on a warm day. Everything worked fine when I left. The customer called me a week ago, and complained that the wind caught the door, and tore the closer off the jamb. She said the door doesn’t close correctly. I just came back from repairing the jamb, installing a new, heavier duty door closer, and a safety chain. All is good, until the main door is closed, and the glass panel is in the storm door. Apparently, the compressed air, from the storm door closing and trapping air, is stopping the door from closing the last 1/2″. When the main door is open, the storm door closes like a flipper in a pinball machine. An obvious problem, but I can’t think of what to do. I did raise the sweep up a bit, hoping that would relieve the air pressure, but still not enough. I’m stumped.
