Storm door vs “extra thick” entry door?
The storm door will mitigate environmental abuse of the entry door, things like wind, direct sunlight, and driving rains. It also helps with sound attenuation. There could be other benefits, some unexpected. I can heat 1500sf floor space to above 72 degrees with the solar heat gain of the plexiglass storm door, and that's 30 degrees above outside ambient. There will be heat loss by conduction too, but the solar insolation heat gain exceeds it by far. I live in an area with lots of sunny days, and the door points to geographic south unobstructed sun. In summer the sun is too high in the sky to affect the door.
