This is a simple question, is there a standard ergonomic height to install a microwave/stove vent unit above the cooking surface of a stove? the unit i am about to install specifies a minimum of 14″ above the stove surface, but that seems a little low. Thanks!

Code requires 24 inches above the cooktop to a non-combustible
and 30 inches to any combustible object (like the bottom
of a cabinet). The cooktop surface is usually at 36 inches.
That puts the bottom of the unit at 5 feet off the floor.
This is one reason why people jog the cooktop a couple inches
lower, so the micro/hood can be a bit lower.
That sounds about right, the installation instructions say 66" minimum to the top of the unit. A local cabinet guy says he uses 68" to give a bit more clearance between the stove top and the microwave/vent. I guess this is a tradeoff, because children and shorter people could have difficulty handling hot substances out of the microwave if its too high, yet if its too low you won't be able to look down into a big stew pot on a back burner. mmmmm. thanks for your comments on the code.
