I’m building a freestanding deck with a bathroom on it, and have posts that are too short for the bathroom wall corners. These are 16 foot 6×6 posts, but the tallest post is only 9 feet above the deck. Footing elevations vary.
Will I need a timber frame joint to extend these up to the height I need for a 4:12 roof, or should I just scab-on 2xs to 6x6s with structural screws?
I considered cutting theses 4 posts to rail height, but like the additional strength the may provide.
Has anyone had this problem before?

A column that supports a 2 story deck is often spliced at the the rim joist of the deck. You could notch out the top of the 6x6 for the (inline?) beam that supports the deck.. And then notch (around the beam) the bottom of the second 6x6 that goes up to support the roof. With blocking, railing, and roof framing that ought to be pretty strong.
