Cub Cadet gas string trimmer has a problem. The motor runs fine, but the head does not spin. Looks like the zinc socket has been wallowed out by a loose fitting driven shaft. The lower shaft comes off so you can use a different head, like an edger.
I can buy a complete new upper shaft for about $45, so any fix will have to cost half that much or I will simply buy a new one.
I’m thinkimg about filling the socket with lead, inserting a section of square drive shaft to create a new recess.

If you wind up bhying a new one, I would LOVE to buy that motor from you, I have a similar CCadet and I Think I smoked the motor.
You might remember me, I sold you a PLANE a ways back..A BIG plane.
You misunderstood me, mr bluegrass. I can buy the upper handle assembly, not the motor, for $45.
Bought it at Lowes. If you follow the starting instructions exactly, it starts every time. Except that the very first pull on a cold motor is really, really hard. After that it pulls easy and starts right up.
I thought lead might be soft, but I think it will only be about 1/16 thick. JB would be easier to work with, maybe I'll try that first. I was wondeing how to get the melted lead in the socket and keep it milten long enouygh to stick the shaft in place, and then how to keep it from sticking the whole thing together."Put your creed in your deed." I see. Just use JB Weld, lead will waller out again too soon. Coat the mating part w/lard, or vaseline to keep it from sticking.
The orig. is probably magnesuim or a zinc alloy...maybe alum.
Mines starts, it just rattles like the piston is in a 5 gallon bucket.Z
lemme guess where you bought that..............

I would think lead would be too soft. I would use Devcon, JBWeld or another steel epoxy.
