I am thinking of building a mezzanine floor over part of my 2 car garage for general storage.
The area available is 19ft. x 9ft. 6in. There are 3 load bearing walls around this area, two 9ft. 6in. and one 19ft. What do I need to provide sufficient floor support?
It would be nice to avoid a pole in the middle of my garage. There will be a flight of stairs parallel to the long dimension.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks, John.

How much height will be in the new area?
Keep in mind, it's not what you PLAN to store in this area... but rather what CAN be stored in this area.

Do you really mean that? By that rule every floor in a house would have to be designed for several hundred pounds per square foot, because the homeowner COULD store 8' stack of bricks or heavy duty cast iron machine tools in any room.
well, not literally.
The point that I was making was that many times people build lofts, etc for storing lightweight stuff like christmas decorations, etc.
Instead, they should build it for the future uses that may be needed... such as storing TOOLS! LOL
Sorry for any confusion.. I wasn't clear.
I had a buddy in NC that put in a 4 color printing press about 24' long from end to end in one end of his (rented) mobile home..lifted the other end right off the blocks, when the press end sunk the piers in the ground.

How did he get it in there? Piecemeal? The backend drop down like an LST? Inquiring minds may not care, but I'd sure like to know!
I never met a tool I didn't like!
in hunks..I even helped, cuz I lived next door and had a truck and dollies..
funny thing is..he never got the security deposit back..oh, and the INK all over the place..he trashed it royally..
the press was directly over the long I beams, it took a few days for him realize what was happening (the press likes to be level, when it's not, things get finicky)..every door in the place either was stuck open, or stuck closed.

Dare I ask what he was printing?
I don't know. I moved shortly after the install.
