I have a 20 X 43 ranch style addition that I need to install a structural ridge in. The new LVL is approximately 35 feet, it will allow us to install a taller sidewall for adaquete door and window heights as well as a cathedral ceiling. My question is this: should I just install temporary collar ties to prevent the walls from spreading and then cut out the existing ridge? Any help would be appreciated.

The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.
