I’m in a position to acquire a small quantity of very large sycamore logs in exchange for labor. I have also located a portable sawmill and an operator who is ready, willing and able.
Unfortunately, none of the books I possess, describe the mechanical properties of this particular wood species.
How does sycamore rate as a structural timber ?

Thanks Mark,
After a week and no response, all sorts of wild thoughts raced through my mind. Was my question simply stupid, possibly too difficult...do I have bad breath ?
I perused the site you offered up. An interesting display of Missouri conservation fact & figures, but alas, not what I need.
Let me try this again, but stated in a different way -
I can score some very large Sycamore logs for next to nuthin' !! But I don't know if Sycamore is suitable for timber framing. Before I agree to take the log-zillas, I want to be certain that Sycamore will perform in a structural role.
I have base value reference tables for a wide variety of tree species, but not for sycamore.

P.man, I'm told that American Sycamore is similar to Maple in many ways... which Maple???
Go to http://www.woodweb.com, and hit the link to "Woods of the
World." There is a reference CD available from them, but no downloadable information.
