Hi,
I’m replacing the windows in my home while remodeling. I removed the old wooden brickmould from the previous insert windows and am replacing with renovations windows complte with a 2″ brickmould. I moved a window over 3 feet and have to do some stucco repair.
For the outside of the windows, I plan to seal the side that is tight to the existing stucco with silicone and then stucco the wall where there the window used to be. I’m wondering if I should leave a small gap between the stucco and the window y putting a piece of channeling a 1/4″ from the brickmould, or if I should stucco straight to the brickmould?
Thoughts?
Thanks!

First of all.leave the silicone in the tube and use polyurethane. There is almost never a reason to use silicone. If your stucco is on lath you should chip back the stucco so you have a flange of lath to tie into. If you're going over block you still should try to get the top layer of stucco tapered back so your new stucco blends with the old. I'd probably apply the brickmold first and stucco to it. After the stucco dries a little clean out the edge that touches the window so you can come back after it's primed and apply a bead of poly caulk.
Good advice Florida. I am totally with you on the silicone!
Terrible stuff. Good for building aquariums and not much else. I'd like to have a dollar for every hour I've spent scraping that junk off surfaces so we could actually fix problems. We had a bathroom once where the homeowner caulked every grout like with silicone! It might have been cheaper to re-tile.
To keep it simple and answer your question i would think you would want to stucco right up to the brickmoulding. Keep in mind such windows with brickmoulding should have chalking put around them after the stucco is complete.
