I don’t know if I’m asking too much, but could someone give me a ballpark figure on what stucco costs??? Is it based on surface area i.e. square yardage or footage? This would be in Northern California, the SF Bay Area specifically.
I’m running into a bit of a snag with the stucco guy I am communicating with at the moment. He had my set of plans, gives me a price. Fine, let’s line up something. As we’re working through a contract he says that the thickness will be a max of 3/4″. I write in min to be 7/8″ as per my plans. I further look through my plans and not only does it say 7/8″, but also spec’s out that this is a three layer/coat job.
He insists that I agreed to a two-layer, 3/4″ thick job because I checked one of his other jobs in the next town to me. This I did, but only went out to check the type of finish texture I might be interested in.
I’m just wondering if he kind of screwed up in his “number” to me, now realizing that this is a three-coat, 7/8″ job. It is clearly spelled out in the plans. I don’t want to totally write this guy off as I have seen a few jobs of his now and the GC’s have had good comments about him. I wish he would just be more upfront with me, not trying to finagle out of this two-coat vs three-coat thing.
What I’m trying to figure out is what is a decent number for the entire job. And trying to figure out what the additional cost of the finish coat is going to be that he seems to have obviously missed in his bid to me.

Look on the Soutside of his other jobs, is there lots of cracks, especially at the windows. Does he set the corner beads, it will determind the thickness. Is it scratch coat, brown coat and then color coat. What kind of lath is being used? Staples or furring nails? Thickness of window flanges will determind thickness. If its rock hard in 6 hours, your OK. Sun and dry wind will cause more problems than thickness.
