Van,
Are you talking about covering exposed aggregate stucco with a new coat of stucco?
Or, are you talking about covering stucco with an exposed aggregate stucco?
The answer to both would be yes......

I have a different twist on "stucco over old stucco." My house was built in 1912. I have added on an addition to the back, so need to match new stucco to old. My idea is to apply new layer/s over the old. How do I need to prepare the surface, other than a thorough cleaning with soap and water. To compound the problem, a gritty layer was obviously sprayed on, probably (my guess) in the early fifties. And portions of this layer have been painted over since. Do I need to attach new lath to this layer before I apply new scratch coat? I'm also assuming I need to chip away those areas that are obviously "loose" or are unstable to their adhesion to the brick (actually a four-celled cinder brick) which forms that structural wall. I would appreciate any ideas.
