I need technique advice. We’ve recently leveled our pier & beam Central Texas home. We’d like to close up the crawlspace by putting in lath&mortar stucco underpinning. I’ve done lots of mortaring in my time but have never done mortaring over lath before. I refuse to use a wood or any other rigid backerboard because it would be a perfect termite conduit into through the beams into the house. I’m thinking I just mix the mortar thick and trowel it over the lathe. But: 1) do I admix latex to give the stucco some flexibility? If so, how much? What’s the mortar/stucco mixture? Generally, what’s the proper technique for doing this? I’ve had one person tell me that you just apply several coats of mortar to the lath and that is your “stucco”. Can anyone help? Are there mixes for this type of thing? Can I just make the stucco myself like I’d make any particular function-specific mortar?
Thanks for the advice,
Sanlogan
