Should stucco have weep holes above a window similar to those in a brick fascia?
This is traditional stucco installed about 50 years ago. Above all windows & doors is a metal flashing. A few years ago a small amount of water (a cup full at most) started leaking in at the top of a window, at first occasionally under certain weather conditions. Now it is happening more frequently in less violent weather. Having found no other explanation I wonder if over the years water seeping behind the stucco, which I understand is to be expected, has rusted through the flashing behind the stucco above the window. Is this a likely explanation for the leak? Having seen mortar joints omitted in brick fascia I wonder if there should be similar holes in stucco.
