Went to my house on Long Island Monday afternoon, by Wednesday lunch I was complete with fabrication, and the finish was drying. Took the train back to NYC, some friends stopped by my house today and loaded the desk into their minivan, and brought it in for me (sushi lunch compensated their time).
Not high class furniture grade, but better than some particle board kit, and it fits the space well, I think.

I live in less than 300 sq. ft. so I have to try to maximize storage, hence the shelves under the desk.
I've got a few L brackets attaching the top the the sides, but the shelves sit on hooks, and with a screwdriver and 5 minutes, it can be disassembled and carried to another location via subway, if need be, without much effort.

nice stuff...what wood is that? edge banded? Who says knock-down furniture has to be throw away?

The top is "sandeply" from the orange box. The sides are a fingerjointed board, 24" wide and the shelves are 5/4 stair tread.I remember an article in FHB about some guy who built cabinets out of ply and left the edges unbanded as part of the design. Decided to do that myself as banding a curve was going to be a PITA. Rounded over the edges , filled a few voids with putty, and polyurethaned the thing. The layers of the plywood actually look pretty good, considering the application.Marine Engineerfair winds and following seas
